Paul's TOP BOOKS Read in 2015
2015 was an amazing year for YA, especially Fantasy YA! I completed my Reading Challenge and read over 50 books. So I'm going to share my favorites! First, I have my top books that aren't sequels. Review: I am a big fan of novellas that bridge the gap between releases of books in a YA genre series. It's nice to quench that thirst if only enough to survive. This novella made me more thirsty!
It took me a bit to get back into the world, but once I recalled how the characters in this novella relate to those in Red Queen I really got into it. I even now want a prequel to this. The king's paramour piqued my fancy. I would love the story of that king coming into adulthood. They were stable in the novella, but there had to have been drama to get there.
I want a Prince Robert novella!
If you liked Red Queen and like me can not wait for Glass Sword, this novella will help that pain. It isn't a full meal though.
I give Queen Song a 4/5. I'm excited for the next novella. And I'll be hoping for Prince Robert's story.

Review: After just the first few chapters, I knew I would love this book.
I am a huge fan of stories that blend fantasy and sci-fi. Red Queen does this excellently. The story takes place in a futuristic dystopian world, but there are many fantastical elements as well.
The world building in this novel is excellent. Every time more of the world was revealed, I wanted to know more. Aveyard makes the world feel bigger than just this story. It is a complex world, but it is easy enough to follow. I was completely immersed as I read.
Although there is one main protagonist, there are many main characters in this book that appear often and have much influence on the story. Aveyard introduces these characters so well. There was never a time when I was overwhelmed by an onslaught of new characters or couldn't remember who someone was. The characters were introduced perfectly. And I fell for so many of them. So many great characters!
The concept of Silvers and Reds is so interesting. It touches on caste systems and social divides, but in a way that isn't too heavy considering there are superpowers involved. There is definitely an X-Men or Avatar: The Last Airbender feel to this world.
Towards the end, there were some characters that had abrupt changes that I didn't quite follow, but I saw something similar coming. There were a few things I thought that I had picked up on being foreshadowed, but they didn't come to fruition in this novel. I look forward to seeing whether they actually come to be in the rest of the trilogy. The romance in this novel is relevant to the plot, but it also felt like it was only there to make the book feel more YA mainstream. Love triangles...

Why?: I have heard amazing things about this book. And just look at that cover. It is absolutely gorgeous. Everything about this book sounds awesome.
Expectations: I'm expecting an epic dystopian YA with a fantasy influence featuring a strong heroine. The seperation between Silvers and Reds sounds very inetresting.
Judging a book by its cover: I LOVE this cover. It is simple and elegant. The blood really stands out against the background. And the crown/tiara is upside down. This cover really draws my attention.
