She flipped through the drawings of massive Ogres, the Vodnik with his fish scales and green beard, a shapeshifting Leshii with spiraled horns and a pack of wolves, and beautiful, long-haired Rusalki, the spirits of drowned maidens. There were illustrations of herbs Anouk had never seen. One vibrant blue flower had a note underneath:

Visual approximation, based on description. This plant is said to have gleaming petals and rarely appears, blooming only at midnight for a short time. Highly coveted by some creatures, but powers not fully understood. No known use for humans.

The last page of the book had a drawing of a man dressed in deerskin. His dark hair and beard were shaggy and his eyes looked unfeeling. The caption below simply read: Woodsmen: Brutish and unclean.
